Honey Helps FAQ's

  • When is the honey produced/packaged and how long will it last?

The honey is produced late spring through late summer.  There is a period known as the "honey flow", typically lasting for a couple weeks, when a variety of plants are in bloom, providing the ideal time for the honey bee to produce higher volumes of honey.  Our honey is then harvested by manually gathering the honey and loading it onto farm trucks where it is then taken to a "honey house" where the honey is extracted and bottled.  Our honey has an indefinate shelf life.  Because it is RAW, it can and will crystalize over time.  Simply increasing the temperature of the honey in warm water will address the crystalization.

  • What makes our honey unique?

Our honey is produced by honey bees that utilize dandelions in the spring, moving to clover in the summer and then to the Basswood (Lindenwood) Trees in late summer.  The result is a lightly colored golden honey, actually referred to as white honey.  Our honey does not resemble the typical darker gold honey normally seen on the grocery store shelves.  In addition to this, our honey is "RAW" - we don't filter the honey or heat our honey which can damage its consistency.

  • What does "raw" mean and what are the benefits?

Just as raw fruits and vegetables contain more nutritional value than cooked or preserved fruits and vegetables, the same is true for honey.  Raw honey is unpasteurized, unprocessed and unheated.  It is an excellent source of essential vitamins, minerals and enzymes.  It is also an abundant source of antioxidants.
